Ontario Road Salt Eats Cars
Every winter, Mississauga and GTA roads are covered in salt and brine. It gets into seams, sits on brake lines and slowly eats through rocker panels, subframes and bolts. Oil spray undercoating creeps into those spots and pushes out moisture — so rust can't get started, or spreads much slower on older vehicles.
Keep Resale Value
Rust is one of the first things buyers and dealers check. A clean underbody sells for more.
Avoid Expensive Repairs
Rusted brake lines, seized bolts and rotted subframes cost far more to fix than yearly protection.
Safety & Safety Certificates
Heavy rust on brake lines and structural parts can fail a safety inspection.
Walk In. Drive Out Protected.

No appointment needed, Monday to Saturday. Or call ahead.
Lift & Inspect
Your vehicle goes up on the hoist and we look over the underbody.
Spray & Grease
Full oil spray underneath, plus white lithium grease on all latches and hinges.
Drive Home
A little dripping for a day or two is normal — that's the oil working into seams.
When Is the Best Time to Rust Proof?
Fall — before the first salt hits the road. September to November is the ideal window in Ontario. Oil spray should be done once a year to keep protection strong. If you missed the fall, it's still worth doing any time — the sooner, the better.
| Type | How It Works | How Often |
|---|---|---|
| Oil spray (what we do) | Thin oil creeps into seams and crevices, stays soft and self-heals when chipped | Every year |
| Hard rubberized undercoat | Thick coating on the underbody; can crack over time and trap moisture underneath | Touch-ups as needed |
| Nothing | Salt and brine sit directly on bare metal all winter | — |
Rust Proofing Questions
How much does rust proofing cost in Mississauga?
At SM Auto, oil spray rust proofing is $150 for cars, $180 for SUVs, $200 for small pickup trucks and $250 for full-size pickup trucks. Spraying inside the doors, hood and trunk is $100 extra. Prices are plus HST.
What is included in the rust proofing service?
A full underbody oil spray using Würth and ACDelco rust protection products, plus white lithium grease on the door latches and hinges, hood latch and hinges, and trunk or tailgate latch and hinges.
How often should I rust proof my car?
Oil-based rust protection should be applied once a year. The best time in Ontario is the fall, before road salt season starts.
Will oil undercoating drip?
Some dripping for the first day or two is normal with oil spray. That's the oil creeping into seams and crevices. Park outside or put cardboard down for the first night.
Is rust proofing worth it on a new or used car?
Yes. Starting on a new vehicle keeps rust from starting. On a used vehicle, oil spray slows existing surface rust and protects brake lines, fuel lines, bolts and body seams from road salt.
Do I need an appointment for rust proofing?
No. SM Auto takes walk-ins Monday to Saturday, 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM, at 922 Dundas St. E, Unit 6–8, Mississauga. You can also call 905-277-1333.
Can I wash my car after rust proofing?
Wait a few days before a car wash, and avoid underbody pressure washing so the oil can stay in place and keep protecting.
How is this different from Krown or Rust Check?
It's the same kind of service: an annual oil-based spray that creeps into seams and repels salt and moisture. SM Auto uses Würth and ACDelco products at flat, posted prices, and greases your door, hood and trunk hinges and latches at no extra charge.
